Job Description

Position Summary

NextFlex is looking for an experienced mechanical engineer who has a proven record of product development from design concept through market introduction. Candidates should have experience integrating electronic components (PCBs, interconnects, wireless antennas, batteries, etc.) with mechanical enclosures for operation in outdoor environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Design mechanical enclosure systems for electronics
  • Communicate with customers to develop mechanical product requirements
  • Create and maintain 2D drawings, 3D models, standard work assembly documentation, and BOMs
  • Coordinate with suppliers of product components from prototype to production
  • Validate mechanical designs by planning and executing testing
  • Investigate new concepts, materials, equipment, and processes to optimize products
  • Design build fixtures to increase factory yield through automation
  • Solve fast paced hands-on complex problems
  • Contribute to a cross-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists
  • Work closely with Program Manager to meet milestones and deadlines
  • Stay up to date with technology trends

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3-5 years integrating batteries, PCBs, wireless antennas, interconnects, etc. into sealed mechanical enclosures
  • At least 2 years implementing mechanical designs into full volume production assemblies
  • Understanding of dimensioning and tolerancing standards and analysis
  • Proficient with SolidWorks 3D CAD

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Proficient with creating mechanical components in plastic, metal, and silicone materials
  • Experience with outdoor environmental testing methods for mechanical electronics enclosures
  • Knowledge of urethane, epoxy, and silicone encapsulation systems for electronic components
  • Experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping
  • Ability to perform component level stress analysis
  • Experience developing products for medical applications
