DESIGN CHALLENGE: U.S. Marines Modular Logistics Vehicle Due February 10
A team of Marines has turned a fleet of standard off-the-shelf utility vehicles into highly customized vehicles that can now serve a wide range of diverse tasks. Ideas are sought to design a new modular vehicle system that meets a range of logistical missions, including the application of FHE for Automotive concepts.
FUNDING OPPORTUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT (FOA): Office of Naval Research Seeks White Papers for Manufacturing Engineering Education Program Due February 16
The “Manufacturing Engineering Education Program” was recently established by the U.S. Department of Defense to support industry-relevant, manufacturing-focused, engineering training at United States institutions of higher education, industry, nonprofit institutions, and consortia of such institutions or industry. It will establish new or to enhance existing programs (or collections of programs) to better position the current and next-generation manufacturing workforce to produce military systems and components that assure technological superiority for DoD.
Manufacturing technologies of particular interest include, but are not limited to: manufacturing of lightweight structures, systems, and materials; robotics for manufacturing; manufacturing to exploit nanotechnology; manufacturing of components and systems for power generation, storage, or distribution; manufacturing of multi-functional electronics and/or optical devices; or other manufacturing technologies of regional or industrial sector of interest.
